As much as I don't want to believe this article, I have to say that there is a lot of truth behind it. Even as I was reading this article I found myself getting onto other web pages and even took a nap at the halfway point. I had never really thought about how I sometimes struggle to make it through an entire article. I have come to notice that if I am on the internet, I can very rarely read an entire article with no distractions. I typically have little to no problem reading a good book, but as soon as my laptop fires up I surf from one page to the next and my attention span gets shorter and shorter.
Now even though I do believe a lot of what he says about our loss of attentiveness, I think that the idea "artificial intelligence"and the thought that computers will rule us is a little over the top. I mean I'm sure the internet has made us lazy and less likely to open a book, but it also makes nearly all the wealth human knowledge available at any time. In my opinion this doesn't make our brains work any slower. As long as we can remain attentive, our brains will be able to retain and access that information at anytime. The internet isn't going to replace our brains, it's just a supplement. It's a tool we can use to learn anything we want. A tool that can give us information at a moment's notice. Maybe I'm just being skeptical of his skepticism, but I don't see us losing our brains anytime soon.
