Honey Boo Boo

What has America come to? Do we really enjoy watching someone not only making a fool of themselves, but also possibly (most likely) ruining the life of a six year old? Has it become entertainment to watch someone throw themselves off a bridge? Mitch Albom links the two events in his article to prove his point of the "melting of our humanity," and honestly I must agree. It seems to me that American's have become so desensitized that not only do we tolerate the production and streaming of these videos, but by our viewing habits we actually demand to see these things. We crave to see people in extreme situations, regardless of how they are affected by it. It seems as though people are saying, "Well, it's not happening to me so it's ok to watch."The people in these videos are HUMAN BEINGS! How can we just look at these people and not be concerned about how they are affected by their actions? How can people see someone about to jump off a bridge and, instead of trying to do something about it, pull out their cameras so they can put a video on YouTube?

For some reason, unbeknownst to me, America enjoys watching things like this and, because we watch them so much, they will keep getting worse and worse. Hopefully these events are the lowest things we allow our society to succumb to. However, if my gut feeling is true, I think it might be just getting started.
